FDA urging everyone to avoid peanut butter products

While there is still no link between supermarket and grocery store peanut butter sold in jars and tubs, the FDA is urging consumers to avoid things made with peanut butter like cakes, cookies, and crackers.

From the AP:

Officials are focusing on peanut paste, as well as peanut butter, produced at a Blakely, Ga., facility owned by Peanut Corp. of America. Its peanut butter is not sold directly to consumers but distributed to institutions and food companies. But the peanut paste, made from roasted peanuts, is an ingredient in cookies, cakes and other products that people buy in the supermarket.

Peanut butter is getting a bad reputation because of whatever is going on in these factories that are processing the peanuts. As long as there isn’t a problem with peanut butter sold in jars at the grocery store, I guess I’ll have to be baking my own peanut butter cookies.
