You can find work now, just in places you may not have wanted

Have you ever watched the show “Dirty Jobs” on Discovery channel and thought, “Now, that’s something that I would actually love to do?” No? I didn’t think so. Well, in this recession those are the kinds of jobs that people have found themselves in after not being able to find work in their field of choice. There are jobs available all over the country for the dirtiest and stinkiest jobs such as working at a slaughter house or sewage plant.

Recessions tend to make people go into the jobs that they find a bit less desirable than they would have hoped for. These less desirable jobs, as awful as they are, don’t exactly come with a paycheck to balance out the filth either. These jobs tend to be lower paying, but many people are taking them just to make ends meet.

Last month, even though the unemployment rate dropped to 9.4%, that equates to somewhere near 14.5 million people out of work. And as much as I don’t want to have to say it, “desperate times call for desperate measures.” Whether it be cutting up chicken carcasses or shoveling, well, you know.

Of course, there are plenty of people who are overqualified taking jobs busing tables or taking orders at your local fast food restaurants just so they can put food on the table. However, when those overqualified workers take these jobs there are going to be teenagers and other unskilled workers who can’t find work.

Many people who have found themselves in a job where they may not want to be have still found themselves to be lucky. It seems no matter who you talk to, most people are just happy to have a job and be able to hold it. There aren’t too many complaints to be found when it comes to those with jobs, no matter how foul the job may be.
