In New Mexico, Wells Fargo is offering a free Shed Day

Next Saturday, April 25, Wells Fargo banks in New Mexico will be offering a “free shred day” event where anyone can stop by and shred their documents.

The shredding starts at 9 a.m. and last until 1 p.m.

Last year more than 8,000 pounds of paper by 400 people was shredded in the Albuquerque area alone.

People can bring up to 50 pounds of paper documents to the branch for shredding. The paper will be loaded onto an Adelante Document Destruction Services truck and taken to the company’s plant for destruction and recycling.

The bank says the effort helps fight identity theft. Wells encourages customers to shred sensitive documents instead of throwing them away in garbage or recycling bins, where they could fall into the hands of identity thieves.
