The Pitch – What would you give up to have a customized credit card?

What would you give up to have a highly customized credit card?

Question:

Perhaps the real question is what kind of concessions would you be willing to make on things like APR and benefits to have a card that is uniquely you?

Answer:

I would rather have an ugly card than to have to worry about my 30% APR or not having any kind of benefits from the card. I have seen where people have to pay higher APR’s on the cards that have a cute picture of their cat or dog or kid just because the credit card company went through the “trouble” of putting a customized picture on the card. This isn’t always the case, but, like I said, I would rather have an ugly card.

So the truth is, I would not make any concessions when it comes to my credit cards and how they look. I never see my credit cards anyway because they’re always stuck in my wallet. If I’m at the gas station, I use the blue one. If I’m at the grocery store, I’ll use the red one. This is how I know my cards.

  1. Very true, what has looks got to do with something which has got to do with finance? Card companies should come up with some value addition instead of silly things like vertical/horizontal card, cat/dog image, etc.

  2. Yes I would agree. The last card I was offered had the option to feature my alma madder logo, I won’t mention the institutions name…but has four letters, it begins with a “C” and ends with “i”. Anyhow it introduced a rate of 5.990% on transfers and 17.990% on purchases and ballooned from there. Needless to say I rejected the offer, and opted for the traditional plain logo. There’s always a catch…so buyer beware!! Can you imagine if this were to spill over into the Mortgage biz? You could come to a Stage Coach. LOL!!!

  3. I wouldn’t make any concessions at all. I use a plain blue check. I have found them to work just as well as the checks with the puppies on them that cost 4 times as much. A credit card with bunnies or puppies would be fine as long as it doesn’t cost me anything. Actually, make it plain with the bank logo on it so I can tell one from another in my wallet and I am all set.
