How far would you commute to work?

Question:

With the unemployment rate nearing 10%, how far would you commute to find work and how much would you have to get paid for it?

Answer:

I think that I would commute 60 miles or so, but I would need to be able to offset the cost of gas and wear on my car with a larger salary than I could get closer to home.

There are a lot more, and more career-oriented, jobs about an hour from my house (that’s interstate driving with no traffic), but I’m kind of unsure about going there because of the long daily commute.

  1. I’ve commuted over and hour and a half each way: though purely because of quality of living. There was no need to live right in the city when I had an amazing spot in the mountains. Though if you were commuting from a worse position, then I don’t really see the point – unless, of course, it’s financial.

  2. I believe that 45 mins is the average commute time. That’s the most I have ever had to commute. I have worked with people who were driving 1 1/2 hours each way 3 hours a day wasted. But you need to do what you need to do to put food on the table … It takes me less than a minute
