The Pitch – How is your electricity bill looking this summer?

How much are you paying for electricity this summer?

Question:

This summer, so far, has been strange. Much of the Northeast has seen very wet weather and it’s pretty cool there too. It’s been ridiculously hot in the Mid- South.

With the (kind of) strange weather, how is your electricity bill looking and now does it compare to last year?

Answer:

I live in Mississippi and it’s been hot. Every time I watch the news, the same three words come up: Hot, Humid, and Hazy.

Our electric bill is actually very similar to last year’s prices. We own a 3 bedroom 1200 sq. ft. house and it was around $120 last month, which was the same as last year. We try to keep the house between 72 and 75 degrees and I try not to use the oven too much in the summer at all.

  1. Yes the weather has been very weird these past few years… summer here has been very wet… the family already had two failed plans of going to the beach… where’s the sun when you needed one! The bill is relatively the same as last years… the reason it’s a bit more than last year is because we purchased a new pc… nothing too alarming :)

  2. We have been trying to cut down on electric usage, for environmental reasons and global warming concerns, but to be honest I am seeing a higher bill than last year for the same period. Not sure yet but something in the house is eating electricity. May be time for a fridge change as we have 2 of them. We do not have aircon.
