Printer Ink is expensive…

Printer companies seem to get you in with a great deal on a printer then hit you with all the costs of the print cartridges. At times it’s actually cheaper to chunk the old printer and just buy a new one. Seriously. I recently purchased a Canon ink jet photo printer for $29, the quality is actually pretty good too (as good as my old HP Photosmart). It came with both the color and black and white cartridges. However, when it came time to repurchase the ink, the color cartridge alone was more than the cost of the printer. What??? was the first thing that ran through my mind.

The problem was solved, however, when I decided to start refilling my own print cartridges. It’s fast, cheap, and most importantly easier than it sounds.

I haven’t had to sacrifice the quality of my printing either.

If you’re new to refilling your own ink, or are just kind of scared to do it because of the mess you might make, go to Office Depot or Staples and get one of the sets that are basically no brainers…you plug it in to your cartridge and it fills it up for you.

You can also usually use these refill kits more than once. I bought a black ink refill kit from Wal-Mart that has lasted me through at least 1500 pages. The ink will go bad before I use it all, I’m sure.
