Plant Bottle

Coca Cola will be introducing a new “PlantBottle” this week. It is a new plastic bottle for its products that is recyclable and made out of up to 30 percent plant based materials. The process that the company uses to turn plant materials into a bottle is to turn sugar cane and molasses into an important component for PET plastic.

Coca-Cola has said that it wants to produce 2 billion of the bottles by the end of 2010.

In Denmark, you can already find the new bottles in Coca-Cola, Coca-Cola Light (Diet Coke), and Coke Zero bottles. Coke is trying to get the bottles produced in Western Canada by the time the Vancouver Olympics come around. There are also some US markets that are supposed to be getting the bottles as well sometime soon. Seattle, San Francisco, and Los Angeles are said to be the first markets starting in January.

It is nice to see the company trying to do something to make the bottles a bit more environmentally friendly. If more companies would try to reduce their impact, then perhaps everyone would be able to reduce their impact on the planet.
