Note to Apple: It would be nice to be able to pick any app we’d like
Jennifer McClelland | RSS | Wed, Dec 30 2009 | 1 Comment
Apple has a serious downfall when it comes to their iphone and software development kit or sdk for those in the know. The problem with the ingenious design is the fact that the “apps” are only accessible once the app is approved by Apple and designated.
Don’t even get me started on the Google Voice fiasco that just happened and landed Apple in some hot water with the FCC….
Now the iphone application store has rejected a new application because the application allows the reading of the Karma Sutra. It is to be noted that the book reader Eucalyptus does not come with any books, but the K.S. is available for download onto devices and could be read at another time.
Whether it be the fact that Apple’s development team may decide that your application isn’t good enough for their devices or good enough to be released to their “cloud,” there are different places for software developers to go to have their programs viewed by many.
Apple has also been thinking of releasing a “net book” also. I suppose the net book would run like net books that run on Windows or Linux and are just able to run simple programs or surf the internet. Apple would undoubtedly make a net book that would be impossible to make programs for and far less powerful than any of the current mac books that are out there today.
The mac/pc commercials make me so mad because the pc just gives up when “the Megan” asks for a computer that doesn’t have software issues like crashing or viruses. Well guess what “Megan,” Mac’s have all those same problems too. As a matter of fact, I have been on a Mac many times in the past and gotten their version of a blue screen of death. I mean the iMac may have been the worst personal computer I have ever used, however there are so many people who think that the Macintosh name and product line is the best thing that has ever happened to the computer industry.
Whatever the reason, I think that people will enjoy PC’s and Windows mobile, Android, WebOS, and Symbian phones for much longer once the novelty of the iPhone wears off (like everyone knows it will).

Palm introduces new WebOS device: the Pixi
Jennifer McClelland | RSS | Wed, Sep 09 2009 | 8 Comments
The Palm PIxi is set to be the new WebOS device and, according to Palm, will be coming out before the holidays this year. The phone, pictured above, is the thinnest and smallest smartphone that Palm has ever come out with and is meant to be a replacement for those who enjoyed the Centro so much.
It will be running the new operating system, WebOS, and also will have a lot of features its big brother the Pre has. Unfortunately, it will also be lacking some of the features too. Instead of a 3.2 megapixel camera like the Pre, the Pixi is equipped with a 2 mp camera. It also lacks WiFi. However, if you have great coverage then the internet should zip no matter where you are. I do see this being a problem though with the large updates that webOS requires.
The Pixi will be available on Sprint. This is good news for the company, who at one time was ailing from poor phone selection. It always seemed like Sprint would be the last carrier to get the trailblazing phones, now they are the first, or at least one of the first. Later this month, the carrier plans to release it’s first Android device, the HTC Hero. The Hero is also known as the MyTouch3G on the T-Mobile network in the United States. However, it lacks the MyTouch3G’s “lip” and is a solid candybar style phone. Sprint is also the only carrier in the United States to be offering any Palm webOS devices. Sprint is also beginning to expand its 4G coverage area; now it is in Atlanta as well as Baltimore.
I always get a little too excited when a new phone like this is announced. I don’t think I’ll be waiting in line this time for the phone since I already have it’s big brother. I would love to try out the Hero, but I can’t afford both the Hero and the Pre at the same time.
This phone was rumored to be called the Eos also. I think that some men will have an aversion to buying a phone called the “Pixi” just for their own reasons so I don’t know why Palm would want to alienate those potential customers rather than just naming the phone something that everyone could agree with.

Palm Eos, the next WebOS phone?
Jennifer McClelland | RSS | Sun, May 03 2009 | 3 CommentsPalm has started a new frenzy about a new an slim smartphone to run on WebOS. The phone set to come out after the Pre is supposed to have 4GB of storage, a 2 megapixel camera, and Bluetooth 2.1.
Some are calling it the Centro 2 and some are calling it the “mini-Pre.”
It is set to debut in the fall of this year, according to Engadget anyway.
In my opinion Palm should be more focused on the Pre and getting that phone out and publicized. The rumors are floating around that the phone will be coming out on May 17th on Sprint, coinciding with the season finale of Survivor.
Again, Palm’s success is riding on WebOS and the phones associated with the operating system.

Palm releases the “Pre” along with webOS.
Jennifer McClelland | RSS | Thu, Jan 08 2009 | 0 CommentsToday at CES, Palm announced the “Pre,” a touchscreen smartphone that has a slide out full qwerty keyboard. It is completely different than anything Palm has offered in the past, it even does away with Palm’s OS and enters the market with a new Linux based, webOS.
The phone will be offered on Sprint at first, but a GSM model will be coming out in the future.
This is from the Sprint website:
