USPS may cut delivery to 5 days a week

After being $2.8 billion in the hole for 2008, the United States Postal Service is looking at ways to cut costs for 2009. One way the agency has come up with is to cut delivery from 6 days a week to 5.

Cutting back on delivery days doesn’t exactly mean that it will be cutting Saturday delivery, but instead a lighter day.

“If current trends continue, we could experience a net loss of $6 billion or more this fiscal year,” Potter said in testimony for a Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs subcommittee.

Cutting out a Tuesday or Wednesday wouldn’t be too bad. I think Mondays would work ok too since most government holidays fall on Mondays.
